Yes, it's a Yorkshire Terrier at the Scottie News

Special Delivery, originally uploaded by trisheroverton.

What is the Scottish Terrier and Dog News doing featuring a Yorkie? Well, it's to let you know we have a special report coming up today on Yorkshire Terrier crime.

As part of my duties as editor and publisher of the Scottie News, I must keep up with terrier happenings in general, and I'm frequently amazed by all the Yorkie mayhem and madness.

Sometimes it seems that barely a day goes by without a Yorkie being stolen, kidnapped or impersonated by a less fashionable breed.

On the one hand, it shows the perils of being a hghly popular dog breed. On the other hand, there sure is a whole lot more Yorkie news than Scottie news. And for us dog news hounds, the dirty little secret is that no news isn't always good news...

Get ready for big Moscow soccer match

Since we've got a bit of a Russian theme going on today, Scottie News would like to dedicate this next video to all those Scottish Terrier-loving tovariches, who also have a thing for soccer. We're Canadian so we really don't get why they're playing the all English final in Moscow, but give us a vodka or two and it'll all start to make sense.

The stray dogs of Moscow's Metro

The Wall street Journal looks at how the lives of today's stray dogs compare to conditions experienced by canines under communism:

In Soviet times, dogs were barred from Moscow's metro. Today, however, they are so common there -- curling up on empty seats, nuzzling their neighbors, lounging in stations -- that there is even a Web site devoted to them: www.metrodog.ru.
No Scottish Terriers sighted so far.

Groovy and the Bug

Groovy and the bug Sketch , originally uploaded by uneverchooz.

This wonderful sketch reminds me of my Scottish Terrier, Bridget, when she tries to catch ants, a hopeless pursuit for an animal with her kind of nose.

Oh to be a Scottish Terrier on the Riviera

Riviera Dogs is a blog featuring "photos of dogs, and where possible their owners, in the south of France and Monaco."

Yesterday it showcased a Scottish Terrier giving the stinkeye.

Guess, some Scotties just don't know how to appreciate life on the Riviera.

Woman walks Scottie, comments on Kennedys

The Cape Cod Times reports:

There was very little activity visible outside the Kennedy compound yesterday except for a few television news satellite trucks and paparazzi parked half a block away. A woman walking a Scottish terrier on nearby Scudder Avenue declined to identify herself, but said residents of the area were concerned for their neighbor."The Kennedys are good neighbors. It's the news media and tour buses who stir things up here," she said.
What can we say? It's a slow news day, and as, the Scottie News, has reported before, dogs and Kennedys attract readers.

The hazards of being Barney Bush, top dog

Poor Barney the Scottish Terrier. It's almost as bad as being Denis Thatcher. So many lame jokes told at his expense and there's absolutely nothing he can do about it.

And while we're on the subject of pets running the country, the former Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King is said to have consulted his Irish Terrier, Pat, for poltical advice -- as well as his ouija board and crystal ball.

Weekend Scottish Terrier Video Contest

If you're anything like me you'll have to watch this 25-year-old TV commercial featuring a Scottish Terrier at least twice before you can understand the accent. Bonus points if you figure out where the not-so-Scottish Scotsman is from.

The Steal: A Scottie News featured video

Back for a return performance, the cutest, most impossibly good-natured Scottish Terrier and baby duo ever.

This five-awwww pair was last seen here.

Did Hitler have a Scottish Terrier?

The Unremitting Failure blog is reporting that, along with his German Shepherd Blondi, "Hitler had another dog, a dog shadowed in secrecy, legend, gossip, and innuendo. This dog was Burli the Scotch terrier. Given to Hitler by Martin Bormann, Burli stayed well away from the Albert Speer-designed spotlights of celebrity fascism. In fact, the only reference to him we've ever run across is in The Hitler Book, which distills the details of the interrogations of two of Hitler's underlings conducted by the Soviets following the war."

The Scottish Terrier and Dog News remains deeply sceptical, not only about Burli but also about Eva Braun's alleged Scotties.

Update: Scottie News doesn't know what we were thinking, as documentary evidence of Eva Braun's Scottish Terriers, Negus and Stasi, abounds. `

And not only still photos either but video too as was pointed out to us in the comments:

There are further rumours about Eva having a third Scottie and also that the dogs were given to her by her Fuhrer fiance. It's interesting too that one of them was called Stasi.

Dry dog food caused human salmonella outbreak

An outbreak of Salmonella infections in people has been traced to contaminated dry dog food, the first time such a link has been uncovered, the Washington Post reported.

Salmonella infections from dry dog food may be an under-recognized source of illness in people, especially young children, officials from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

"This is the first time human illness has been linked to dry dog food," said CDC epidemiologist Dr. Casey Barton Behravesh, who co-authored a report on the finding.
